I have many students who come to me for advisement, very unsure of what career they should focus on. And because they do not have enough information about different careers and what types of careers would give them the greatest satisfaction they do not know what major to choose or what educational path to follow. If you are one of these students then please do the following:
Go to www.nycareerzone.org
Click on Explore Career section
Click on Assess Yourself
Click on O*Net Interest Profiler (you will see the link at the bottom of the page – to do a comprehensive interest assessment)
You will be asked to create a new account. Do so. It is all free. And be sure to record your username and password.
Go back to Career zone (you will see link at the bottom of the page) And then click on the Interest Profiler – it will take you about 30 minutes to complete. After completion of the interest profiler you will be given a list of career fields that best fit your interests.
Explore the career fields that interest you the most. Look at the educational requirements and the major that is required to be in this field. Also look at the job outlook in this field to see if it would be easy to get jobs in this field or not.
