Reaching Out

Imagine, that when you came back to tell your story to the young students at BMCC the students asked you to share with them the steps that you took to get to the door of your dream career.

Discuss how you developed a list of contacts to help you find your future job. Explain how these contacts came from mentors, friends, supervisors, college professors and members of professional organizations that you had joined to further your future career.

Finally share with the students the resume that you developed at the end of your school that indicated your goals, accomplishments and contributions.

Demonstrate how the resume was based on all that you have done and accomplished until Year 2013 and how it was specially targeted for the employer and the position that you were seeking.

Create your resume in www.nyjobzone.org and provide the link of your final resume on a slide titled “The Passport” – depict in the slide the elation that you felt on arriving at your final destination.

  1. i dont realy understand the logics of this assignment since I am not able to defrenciate it from the previous assignment except its latter part about the resume……………..and what if i haven had any contacts to help me find that job how should i address this assignment

  2. Thanks for your question Deighten. Up until now you have in a sense understood the strengths and weakness of the product (which means you), you have figured out how to position it in the market and also come up with a product development strategy.
Reaching out (Assignment 5) speaks to the fact that our professional success is dependent on who we know just as much as what we know. We need to have a strategy for developing “who we know” — I would like you to imagine (since you are not there yet) the types of people who you stayed in touch with, the contacts that you actively tried to build up, the networking opportunities that you availed in order to reach your ‘dream’ job.
You may not have those contacts yet. But think ahead of the types of contacts you would have to build to make it to the finish line five years from now.

  3. your information was quite clear however I got into a mix up and was expecting a mesage into my email inbox………so I only realized that you replied on the blog …so i may post it up by tonite meaning tuesday night….

  4. on job zone, the resume builder asks for supervisor name when you write the job experiences. How can i put a supervisors name if i never worked there? do i Make one up or just leave it blank?

  5. You can leave it blank. The most important thing is for us to know how you contributed to the business.
